Britain's most awesome toadstool

This is a great time of year to go hunting for fly algaric (amanita muscaria). Back in 2005 I found a fantastic bunch just off the path in Felley Nottinghamshire. Then in 2006 I returned to the same spot and took these photos.

It is worth noting that fly algaric is quite poisonous (if you eat enough of it).

  1. Hi David, this really IS a beautiful fungi, we call it the 'elfs seat' as it's always the one the elf sits on in story book! A more comical and striking one is 'phallus impudicus', or the stinkhorn. The first time I saw one of these, I couldn't believe it! The reservoirs at Ladybower are a great fungi hunting place, LOTS of agaric there too.
